The eyes of the work flow through the paint. And it is with corners and corners, which are marginalized spaces. Colored substances and paints were hung like icicles on the front and side of the screen. The paint, which reflects the law of gravity and the passage of time, was created in a shape that stopped momentarily at the corner. In general, all paints end their lives within the screen of a given square. Gu Sang-hee explores the outside of the screen and shows the existence of paint living on the border. The images seen between the flowing paints are articles from newspapers and magazines that only deal with some notable writers. It tries to escape the influence of the media by covering, rubbing, and erasing it, but at the same time, it expresses the undeniable inner ambivalence by leaving part of the article. The contradiction of our society, which is oriented toward the center, was expressed through the beauty of the surroundings. The flow of the periphery represents the unconscious as temporal.

Hommage to Basquiat homage is a French word for respect and respect. For Gu Sang-hee, Basquiat is the one who broke away from the rigid stereotype. Basquiat's work, which was first encountered by a writer who spent his childhood following the teachings that the equally imitating painting was a well-drawn painting, was like an oasis in a thirsty desert, and the writer felt a strong connection with Basquiat. In the following years, the artist directly transcribed Basquiat's work and introduced the current work by adding the aforementioned symbolic resin technique. In the process of transcription, the natural reversal of Basquiat's image or text served as another interesting factor for the artist. Regarding the limited interpretation of the homage work, Gu Sang-hee says that the purpose is to freely express her admiration for Basquiat as it is. Based on this series, you can meet the works of an artist who travels to more diverse works of old masters.

British author Tiggy Ticehurst currently works in Paris, France. The artist twists the footsteps of mainstream fashion, media, and master painters and reconstructs them in his own way by adding wit and black comedy. It satirically releases criticism of familiar things to ease the weight, and tactfully arranges colors, images, and texts to provide visitors with visual enjoyment. Through a natural and rough brush touch, luxury, media, and masterpieces are newly created on canvas, and present a new perspective by rethinking humorous notions.

In this exhibition, which expresses the twisted mind of mainstream media and master painters in their own formative language, I would like to feel the intersection of the two artists with different expressions and gestures. Take a look at the world of the works of the two artists who have explored creative expressions by presenting a new perspective on the essence.

작업의 시선은 물감을 타고 주변으로 흐른다. 그리고 소외된 공간인 구석과 모서리에 함께한다. 색을 지닌 물질, 물감을 화면의 전면부와 측면에 고드름처럼 매달리게 했다. 중력의 법칙과 시간의 경과를 고스란히 반영하는 물감은 모서리에서 순간 멈춘 형국이 연출되었다. 일반적으로 모든 물감은 주어진 사각형의 화면 안에서 생을 마친다. 구상희는 화면의 바깥을 모색하며 경계에 사는 물감의 존재를 보여준다. 흐르는 물감들 사이로 보이는 이미지들은 일부 주목받는 작가들만을 다루는 신문, 잡지의 기사들이다. 이를 덮고, 문지르고, 지움으로써 매체의 영향에서 벗어나고자 하지만, 그러면서도 기사의 일부를 남겨둠으로써 부인할 수 없는 내면의 양가성을 표출하고 있다. 중심지향적인 우리 사회의 모순을 주변부의 아름다움을 통해 표현하였다. 주변부의 흐름은 무의식을 시간성으로 나타낸다.

Hommage to Basquiat 오마주는 프랑스어로 존경, 경의를 뜻하는 말이다. 구상희에게 바스키아는 굳은 고정관념을 탈피하게 해준 장본인이다. 똑같이 모사하는 그림이 잘 그린 그림이라는 가르침을 따르며 어린 시절을 보낸 작가에게 처음 접한 바스키아의 작품은 목마른 사막에서 오아시스와 같았고, 작가는 바스키아와의 강한 연결고리를 느끼게 된다. 이후 몇 해 동안 작가는 바스키아의 작품을 직접적으로 전사함과 동시에 앞서 언급한 상징적인 레진 기법을 더하여 지금의 작품을 선보이게 되었다. 전사하는 과정에 있어 바스키아의 작품 이미지나 텍스트가 자연스레 거꾸로 표출되는 것이 작가에겐 또다른 흥미로운 요소로 작용했다. 오마주 작품에 대한 제한적인 해석 가능성을 두고 구상희는 오히려 바스키아를 향한 자신의 찬미를 있는 그대로 자유롭게 표현하는 것이 목적이라 말한다. 이 시리즈를 기반으로 더 다양한 옛 거장의 작품들을 여행하는 작가의 작품들을 만나볼 수 있다.

영국출신 작가 Tiggy Ticehurst는 현재 프랑스 파리에서 활동하고 있다. 작가는 메인스트림(주류)의 패션, 미디어, 거장 화가들의 발자취를 뒤틀고 위트와 블랙코미디를 가미하여 자신만의 방식으로 재구성한다. 익숙한 것들에 대한 비판을 풍자적으로 풀어내어 무게감을 덜어주고, 재치있게 색감과 이미지, 텍스트를 배치하여 관람객들에게 시각적인 즐거움을 선사한다. 자연스럽고 러프한 붓 터치를 통해 명품과 미디어, 거장의 작품들은 캔버스위에서 새롭게 창조되며, 유머러스한 관념을 재고하게 함으로써 새로운 관점을 제시한다.

주류 미디어와 거장 화가에 대한 뒤틀린 속내를 자신만의 조형언어로 표현하는 이번 전시, 각기 다른 표현과 몸짓을 가진 두 작가의 교차점을 느껴보고자 합니다. 본질에 대한 새로운 관점을 제시하며 독창적인 표현 방식을 탐구해온 두 작가의 작품세계를 함께 조망해 보시기 바랍니다.
