VIANI

About

Growing up in Venezuela, the artist experienced countless socio-political pressures from a young age and witnessed how individuals transcend harm and becomeresilient under unreasonable social expectations and norms. Sometimes, in the process of conformity,

individuals are molded into a prescribed shape from the outside and seem to lose their uniqueness, but the sublimity of the human spirit to resist adverse conditions is a great inspiration to the artist.

Viani fled the political crisis in Venezuela in 2002. He settled in Barcelona, Spain, choosing minimalism as an ally in preserving the beauty of the spirit and as a testament to the authenticity of the essence of existence.

Viani's work harmoniously coexists with elements of popular sensibility and the purity of art that is immediately recognizable. French designer Stéphane Rolland, known as the former Creative Director of Balenciaga, created a light yet dramatic design for Paris Haute Couture inspired by the artist's abstract expressionism, which visibly demonstrates Viani's ability to cross the boundaries of the frame, exchange influences to expanding his artistic range. The intermingling of margins and large strokes that are reminiscent of a fan, and the balance of yin and yang recall familiar territory, while

the action felt through touch symbolizes a gesture of liberation from the repression of expressive freedom, like the springtime bursting forth of all things that embrace the energy of winter. Through these action-packed figures, the artist not only tells an autobiographical story but also reminds us of the importance of freedom for modern people living a hard life. In addition, the artist, who has been exposed to the use of color as a political marketing tool since his childhood, wanted to symbolize communion and unity through black, the color that brought them together, instead of using primary colors, which were perceived as tools of division at the time. Black is not a color of

compromise for him, but a color that dreams of stability that embraces all colors. Perhaps that's why Viani’s black is like a shadow of a prime time in life that is inseparable from it.
