Hwang Do You is a painter known for his vibrant colors and unique atmosphere, focusing on expression itself rather than the subject matter. His signature series, Thirty-Three Blossoms, is inspired by the idea that the limitations of the hand’s imperfect control can reveal the beauty of the unfinished.

In this series, the artist diverges from traditional methods, opting to omit pencil underdrawings and reduce brushstrokes, minimizing layering to create simplified, single-layer landscapes. By leaving the first brushstrokes visible until completion, he emphasizes purity within his work, allowing details such as the subtle tremors of his hand and the direction of each brushstroke to remain unaltered.

Through his art, the artist seeks to explore how subtle shifts in expression can alter the viewer’s perception, allowing each piece to evolve naturally over time. In doing so, he moves closer to the realm of pure painterly beauty.

이 시리즈에서 황 작가는 기존의 제작 방식을 탈피해 연필 골격을 생략하고 붓질 횟수를 줄이는 등의 방법으로 층을 최소화하여 단층의 단순한 풍경을 완성하고자 했다. 첫 붓질의 흔적을 끝까지 남겨두고, 작업 과정에서 손의 떨림과 붓질의 방향이 그대로 드러나게 하여 회화의 순수함을 강조하는 것이 특징이다.

황도유 작가는 이처럼 표현의 미묘한 변화를 통해 감상자들이 느끼는 감상의 변화를 탐구하고 있으며, 시간이 지나며 작품 자체가 자연스럽게 변모하도록 유도한다. 이러한 작업 방식을 통해 순수 회화미의 세계에 한 걸음 더 다가가고자 한다.
