It looks like last night's dream was listed on the screen. The strange face that came into my eyes while swimming in the sea, The masked men chatted in a language that could not understand the terrifying words, the barking of the dog was like a radio broadcast. The artist expresses in such a pleasant way that consciousness and unconsciousness affect each other. Without thinking about what to draw on the screen, the expression of his mind is expressed with spontaneous energy. The character series, which seems to have been seen in an animated film, creates joy by expressing the sensitivity of the current generation influenced by Western culture with his own stroke with a dreamy vibe. He also mixes colors with a sense of an unplanned moment to fill every corner of the screen deeply or shallowly, so he expects viewers to find themselves in different parts.

275C

There is an artist who wants to figure out how to do better at what he can do easily rather than try to do other things. His work occupies the screen with red, yellow, and blue, which is imprinted on the viewer with a rhythmical image. Especially, the composition series of red, yellow and variations in this exhibition is interestingly related with the layout of the Dutch abstract artist Piet Mondrian. Red and Yellow divided the screen, and Black is division of screen in the form of numbers, text, bar code, or smile. The fact that the work reminded us the price tag of a super market is also a part of the artist's attitude that "at least don't suffer from what you like."

Chung Sunjoo

The candy on the wall of the exhibition hall has the word Supreme written on it. Actually, they also are written   as AWESOME, and HAPPY PUPPY. The meaning of the work is that each candy's text and color doesn't mean anything. She is warning that even if an individual chooses one of these candies, it is because the external media persuaded him to choose so. This is in the same context as engraving a shiny diamond-studded blue skeleton in a heart sculpture or painting a pastel-toned pointed high heel full of FABULOUS. She warns of the occupation of digital media with these sweet-colored sculptures, so we would better take a breath before choosing your next candy.

JHU

He does not want to say something by putting profound subject in art. He fills the screen with the shape he likes, just as the lines are drawn, as the colors are chosen. Therefore, it is not clear to figure out what it is. You can just follow what you see in this work. The graffiti looks like it’s on a street has been moved to the canvas, the black squares filled up here and there like a pixel as if it’s buffering, and small strokes smeared like a stain. There are various ways to present because he studied in design and computer art fields. Moreover, he was worried that the title might interfere with the viewer's interpretation, so he named every works as same as Jeju-do. The titles are Jeju-do, which shows that he worked on Jeju-do this year.

강목

지난 밤 꿈이 화면에 나열된 것처럼 보인다. 바다를 유영하다 눈 앞에 들이닥친 기이한 형체의 얼굴, 가면 쓴 이들이 무서운 말들을 알아들을 수 없는 언어로 수군대고, 개 짖는 소리가 라디오방송 같았다. 작가는 이렇게 의식과 무의식이 서로 영향을 주고받는 것을 유쾌하게 표현한다. 화면에 무엇을 그려 넣을지 고심하지 않고, 마음이 짓는 표정을 즉흥적인 에너지로 나타낸다. 어느 만화영화에서 본 듯한 캐릭터 시리즈는 서구문화의 영향을 받은 현세대의 감수성을 몽환적인 터치로 표현하여 즐거움을 자아낸다. 그는 색감 역시, 계획하지 않은 순간의 감각으로 섞어 화면 구석구석을 깊게 혹은 얕게 채우는데, 그렇기에 감상자가 각기 다른 부분에서 본인을 볼 수 있기를 기대한다.

275C

노력하기보다는 쉽게 잘 할 수 있는 것을 더 잘하는 방법을 알아내겠다는 작가가 있다. 그의 작품은 빨강과 노랑, 그리고 파랑이 굵직하게 화면을 차지하고 있어 작품을 보는 이에게 경쾌한 이미지로 각인된다. 특히, 이번 전시작 중 빨강 노랑 & 변주(變奏)의 구성 시리즈는 네덜란드의 추상화가 피에트 몬드리안의 레이아웃이 재미있게 연결 지어지는데, 빨강과 노랑이 화면을 분할하고, 검정은 숫자와 텍스트, 그리고 바코드와 스마일의 형태로 또 화면을 분할한 것이다. 작품이 대형마트의 가격표를 연상시키는 것 또한 “적어도 자신이 좋아하는 것으로부터는 고통 받지 말자”는 작가의 태도가 감각되는 부분이다.

정선주

전시장 벽에 붙어있는 캔디에는 수프림이라고 쓰여 있다. 사실 AWESOME이라고도, HAPPY PUPPY라고도 옆 캔디에 쓰여 있는데, 각 캔디의 텍스트와 컬러가 의미하는 바가 없는 것이 작품이 의미하는 바다. 작가는 한 개인이 이들 중 한 개의 캔디를 선택한다고 해도, 그것은 외부 매체가 그렇게 선택하도록 설득했기 때문이라고 캔디로 경고하고 있다. 이는 반짝이는 다이아몬드 박힌 파란 해골을 하트조형에 새겨 넣거나, 파스텔톤 뾰족한 하이힐에 FABULOUS라고 잔뜩 그려 넣은 것도 같은 맥락이다. 그는 이렇게 달콤한 색으로 치장한 조형물들로 디지털 미디어의 점령을 경고하고 있으니, 다음 캔디를 고르기 전까지 숨을 고르는 시간들을 가지는 것이 좋겠다.

JHU

작가는 심오한 주제를 넣어 메시지를 전달하려고 하지 않는다. 선이 그려지는 대로 색을 고르는 대로 그의 마음에 드는 모양으로 화면을 채운다. 그래서 그것이 무엇인지는 명확하지 않다. 이번 작업에서 보이는 길모퉁이에 있을 법한 그래피티를 캔버스로 옮겨온 것이나, 검은 색면이 마치 버퍼링 걸린 듯 픽셀처럼 여기저기를 채우고 있는 것, 얼룩처럼 묻어 있는 작은 터치들도 그저 시선이 움직이는 대로 따라가면 된다. 디자인과 컴퓨터아트를 전공한 작가는 무언가를 표현하는데 있어 그 모양이 다양할 뿐이다. 또, 그는 제목이 감상자의 해석에 방해가 될까 제목을 작업한 당시 작가의 소재지로 통일한다. 이번 작품 제목이 제주도인 것을 보면, 작가가 올해 제주도에서 작업했다는 것을 알 수 있는 것이다.
